Jimmy Bo Horne ~ Spank 1979 Disco Purrfection Version

Now streaming on Apple Music

I soooo remember late summer of 1979, we had just heard about Disco Demolition night, while my buddy Carole and I were cruising the streets of Quebec City in her Mom's Nova Classic. We were on the Grande Allee just slummin and driving with the windows wide open, the street cafes were full on warm Friday night with the sound of music fading in and out as you passed the speakers, but this tune came on the radio right after Sister Sledge and she had it blasting....Jimmy specialized in dance music, every one of his hook filled singles has this phenomenal bass line, funky and dark and dirty. While his music was played in discos, it was R&B. I played it often, his music has a way of starting the party, it was something that you heard on the radio and really came to life on the dance floor speakers. He had the support of the Rick Finch/Harry Wayne Casey production team again here along with writer/producer Ronald L. Smith. Smith was an original member of the Sunshine Band who played horns and helped to choreograph their distinctive moves for stage shows. Here is the link to an excellent article about him here http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/ent...
When Smith brought Spank to the studio, Jimmy was the obvious choice to record it and the Sunshine Band provided the smokin music tracks. "Spank" peaked at #48 disco, the lowest charting of his disco hits, the #11 "Gimme Some" 1975, #17 "Get Happy" 1977 and #32 "Is It In" from 1980. Surprisingly, "Dance Across The Floor" his biggest pop moment peaked at #38 but totally missed the disco chart.
